El Grup d’Estudi i Protecció dels Ecosistemes Catalans – Ecologistes de Catalunya va iniciar l’any 2012 l’escola com a activitat extraescolar pionera a Catalunya. Des d’aquell moment, infants de 5 a 11 anys han anat passant per l’aula de natura per a descobrir la natura i el seu entorn de manera motivadora i respectuosa. En els 10 anys de l’extraescolar han passat molts infants que ara, ja adults alguns, continuen la seva estima i cura del medi. També han canviat els reptes i les problemàtiques ambientals. És per això que des de l’escola ja es preparen per als reptes que la societat haurà d’aprendre en qüestions d’actualitat com el canvi climàtic. La trobada ha començat amb una visita guiada a peu, ‘Tortosa sota les bombes’, un recorregut pel centre de la ciutat i visita al refugi antiaeri número 4, a càrrec de l’empresa Terra Enllà, per recordar els dramàtics fets que es van viure durant la Guerra Civil. Tot seguit els participants s’han trasllat al pavelló poliesportiu de Roquetes on ha tingut lloc la rebuda per part de l’alcalde de Roquetes, Ivan Garcia i el president del Consell i ha actuat la Lira de Roquetes. Un dels moments més emotius de la trobada ha estat l’elecció de l’àvia del Baix Ebre. S’han presentat un total de cinc candidatures per part de les diferents entitats de gent gran i per sorteig s’ha proclamat Felicitas Cortiella Mur, a proposta de l’Associació de Gent Gran d’Aldover. Felicitas Cortiella, de 76 anys, sempre s’ha dedicat a les tasques del camp, tot i que actualment està jubilada i dedica bona part del seu temps a cuidar els nets i netes. La presidenta del Consell Consultiu de la Gent Gran del Baix Ebre, Hermínia Bo, ha estat l’encarregada de llegir els currículums de les diferents candidatures. Així, l’Associació d’Avis de Bítem, han proposat com a candidata a Carmen Cugat Llaó; l’Associació de Gent Gran de Tivenys han presentat la candidatura de Carmen Piñol Antó; l’Associació de Gent Gran de Deltebre a Ramon Gonzalez Morata i la Llar Gent Gran Sant Martí de Xerta a Anselmo Queral Cartoixa. Durant la jornada la consellera comarcal de Serveis Socials, Laura Fabra, ha llegit el manifest del Dia Internacional de la Gent Gran, que va tenir lloc el passat 1 d’octubre. “Cal promoure polítiques públiques que reconeguin la gent gran com a ciutadans de ple dret”, ha dit Fabra. El Consell Consultiu de la Gent Gran del Baix Ebre és un òrgan sectorial de participació ciutadana que integra una vintena d’associacions o casals de la gent gran de la comarca.
