Malgrat trobar-nos ja a finals d’abril, una fina capa de neu va cobrir el massís, i l’àguila no va abandonar la seua ferma dedicació en el procés d’incubació. Així ho va captar la cámara, a través de la que fins i tot s’observa com la neu cobria l’espatlla de la mare mentre ella intentava donar el màxim d’escalfor als ous per garantir el desenvolupament de les futures cries. L’àguila calçada (Aquila pennata) és un rapinyaire forestal que viu als boscos de la zona alta dels Ports. En els rodals de bosc de pinassa i de pi roig de l’interior del massís, hi nidifiquen un total de 15 parelles. Es tracta d’una espècie protegida i d’interès comunitari inclosa a l’Annex I de la Directiva Aus, és a dir, objecte de mesures especials quant a la conservació dels seus hàbitats. Esta espècie és una de les 12 de rapinyaires diürns que nidifiquen regularment als Ports. Des de fa setmanes és possible seguir, a través de YouTube, el senyal en directe d’una càmera instal·lada per controlar el procés de nidificació d’aquests animals en una zona forestal del massís. Així, es va poder veure com les àguiles construïen el niu, com rebien la visita encuriosida d’un esquirol, i com van haver de suportar les baixes temperatures i la neu d’una nevada a finals d’abril. Però un dels moments més emocionants va ser quan la femella va posar el primer ou, amb la posterior visita del mascle al niu, abans de marxar per buscar aliments. Els dos pollets semblen força espavilats i mengen sense problemes tot allò que els propociona la femella. La femella d'àguila calçada ha estat 39 dies incubant el primer ou, que va pondre el passat 20 d'abril, i 39 dies més incubant el segon, que va pondre el 23 d'abril. L'àguila calçada (Aquila pennata) és un rapinyaire forestal que viu als boscos de la zona alta dels Ports, on un total de 15 parelles nidifiquen en rodals de bosc de pinassa i de pi roig ben conservats de l'interior del Parc Natural. Les pluges intenses i contínues durant el cap de setmana han causat complicacions al niu d’àguila calçada i diumenge la tarda es va haver d’interrompre la connexió. Degut al temporal, el mascle no va poder portar preses al niu i els polls han passat moltes hores sense menjar. Finalment, dilluns a la tarda, el mascle va portar dues preses. La diferència entre el primer poll i el segon augmenta i la falta de menjar ha incrementat l’agressivitat del poll gran envers el petit.
